Tis the season to DIY decorate.

Category Celebration Days

Christmas decorations do not need to cost you an arm and leg. There are so many trendy - "Do It Yourself" options available, that will guarantee your home looking ready and classy for Christmas as well as being a super fun activity for you and the whole family to engage in.

Keep it neutral

Decorations for the home do not need to be overly colourful and over the top. Keeping décor neutral ensures that you are able to source décor pieces from multiple places and it also allows you to DIY many more pieces yourself. Your garden is the perfect place to find greenery or even a branch that can be repurposed in your home. If it is a branch that you find and you do not want to keep its natural colour, a quick spray paint can elevate the branch instantly into a Christmas tree.

Candles - More than shedding light

Grouping candles together creates a simplistic yet elegant look. If you do not have candles in the same colour, matching them according to similar colours could also work. Make use of different heights and sizes to make a bigger impact. By adding some greenery from the garden will also elevate your look and is super cheap. If your home has a mantel that you could utilise, then this idea is just for you. If not - do not fret, your dining room or coffee table will also work perfectly.

Trash to treasure

Turn old bulbs into fabulous looking Christmas pears. This DIY activity is great because you can reuse and repurpose an item you previously would have discarded of. How it works is quite simple, gather all your old bulbs, twine of your choice, hot glue, and finally small fake twigs. Hot glue the twine in a tight spiral pattern around the bulbs and allow to dry. Hot glue the fake twig to the smaller tip of the bulb and allow that also to dry - Voila, you have a beautiful, repurposed bulb, that you could practically use anywhere in the home.

Forgettable to memorable - the ice cream stick

Wreaths are synonymous with Christmas decorations. Ice cream sticks are an easy and cost-effective item to use to make the perfect Christmas wreath for your table or front door. Start off by buying a foam wreath approximately 30cm in diameter. To cover the foam, you will require 50 small ice cream sticks and 30 large ice cream sticks. The fun part is painting these sticks any colour that your heart desires, but if we are keeping things traditional then shades of green will be just perfect. Once your sticks have dried you can hot glue them to your foam wreath. You can be as creative as you please. You could also finish off your wreath with a beautiful red ribbon bow, should that be your heart's desire.

Spray can frenzy

Do not underestimate the difference that some spray paint can make. Spray paint is able to change any old ornament or piece of décor into something fabulous and new. Upcycling ornaments can be fun and anyone, including your children can take part with some parental supervision.

Decorating your home over Christmas should be as fun and stress free as possible. Gather as many family and friends to join in the creativity and you never know you might start a new Christmas tradition for those close to you.
